Senior Web Developer

Serve as the lead developer and technical manager. Responsibilities include the design and development of website templates and web pages to enhance NIU’s web presence, enhancing the functionality of the NIU website and making it accessible to mobile devices. Assist in establishing and disseminating standards, guidelines and best practices in web development, CMS implementation, web design, accessibility and functionality and serves as a principal resource on web development and design for departments. Write, customize and implement coding to create or enhance university web page functionality with accessibility, usability and mobility in mind. Use HTML/CSS to independently and professionally adapt existing designs and/or customized templates to meet clients’ needs and NIU’s strategic objectives. Serve as Web Communications’ expert liaison between University Relations and Information Technology Services. Explore and implement ways to increase the use of dynamic content and interactivity on the NIU website. Develop original solutions to address changing customer requirements and leverage emerging technologies in technology. Conduct ongoing functional review of website key interactions and troubleshoot problems. Meet with university clients to discuss their website needs and how to best reach their intended audiences. Develop cascading style sheets based on responsive design to optimize the NIU website for smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices.
