Everyday #highered Social Media: great story & tips by Jackie Vetrano (@JackieVetrano) from Genesee Community College

Jackie Vetrano, Web and Social Media Coordinator at Genesee Community College, is one of the 12 higher ed professionals who presented at the 1st Higher Ed Social Media Conference in December 2013.

In this 3-question interview from November 2013, Jackie told us about one of her great social media moments, her favorite social tool and shares some advice.

1) Can you share one of your great social media moments with us?

I was super excited to tweet about the upcoming campus renovations that were being talked about, and so I attached a link to some 3D renderings of the finished product.

Where did the link redirect to?

My online shopping cart on RentTheRunway.com… whoops! That’s what you get for shopping at work.

2) What is your favorite social media tool of all time?

I delved into using web.stagram.com to try to connect with students on campus through Instagram, so I guess that’s my answer! It’s been really helpful and interesting to sort through!

3) What advice would you give to somebody who is just starting in social media?

Don’t feel like you’re falling behind!

Social media is fast, and constantly changing, so it’s easy to think that you’re “out of the loop.” Poke around, talk to students, and see where they’re going in order to “keep up” with them!
