Nancy Prater, Ball State University Web Coordinator
Nancy Prater loves her title “university web coordinator.”
She notes that “coordinator is another way to say that I make sure everyone is playing nice in the university web sandbox.”
At Ball State University, a mid-size institution in Muncie, Indiana, Prater provides leadership in the conceptualization, coordination, and creative development of externally oriented portions of the web site.
In October, Ball State re-launched its Web site and implemented a new web content management system. The project was an 18-month endeavor that included participants from all over campus, as well as vendors and consultants.
Nancy works out of the university marketing and communications office and has been at Ball State since 1999, and in this newly-created position since 2004. She is a frequent speaker about blogs since Ball State launched its student recruitment blogs (www.bsu.edu/reallife/) in September 2005.
Nancy started her career as a newspaper journalist. She is an early adopter of Internet use and has been working professionally with web endeavors for 11 years. Before Ball State, she was electronic information manager for a group of newspapers in Indiana, where she established online election nights, online breaking local news, an online community for local non-profit groups, and much more.
