Jaime-Hunt-144x150Jaime Hunt, Director of Web Strategy and Interactive Media at Radford University, is one of the 12 higher ed professionals who presented at the 1st Higher Ed Social Media Conference in December 2013.

In this 3-question interview from November 2013, Jaime told us about one of her great social media moments, her favorite social tool and shares some advice.

1) Can you share one of your great social media moments with us?

RU-memesIn April 2013, we “hacked” Radford University’s homepage and posted some of the popular “memes” themed for RU.

Throughout the day, we monitored social media to see the reaction.

It was overwhelming!

Students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff engaged with us on a variety of platforms to tell us how much they loved the show of a sense of humor.

2) What is your favorite social media tool of all time?

The first social media platform I used in a professional capacity is Twitter — and I still love it today! When I began working in social media, I used Twitter to follow journalists so I could pitch them experts based on the stories they tweeted that they were working on. This proved to be an extremely efficient and effective way of reaching reporters as they were putting their stories together.

3) What advice would you give to somebody who is just starting in social media?

Don’t feel like you have to have an active presence on every social media platform. Gauge the ROI to determine if the expected results are worthy of the time commitment.

It is not possible to be extremely active on every platform; make your time count!
