In these past four weeks I’ve learned more about how to put Google Analytics to work than I have in the four previous years. Information was presented in a clear, concise manner, and the real-world assignments gave me the push I needed to use the learnings to collect data that was more than numbers for numbers’ sake, but legitimate data to inform communication decisions.
First-rate topics, first-rate speakers. A really enjoyable and worthwhile conference–worth the price of admission!
Within the first two weeks of this course, I was able to present our director of Transfer and Graduate Admissions and our dean of the School of Nursing with information showing how we could significantly increase the visibility of one of our online nursing programs by slightly tweaking how we referred to the program on our website. The information I was able to provide was so compelling that everyone involved agreed to officially CHANGE the name of the program to take advantage of the search engine optimization improvements I was suggesting.
I would recommend Web Writing for Higher Education to anyone involved in writing and working in a communication or marketing department. It gives great examples of changes that are simple to make but make a large difference in the readability and focus of your website and web content. The tools provided toward the end of the course for content templates can be especially practical for certain kinds of content that are often repeated.
